(Relaxnews) - SkyTeam continues expanding globally, this week welcoming China-based Xiamen Airlines as its 19th member.

After welcoming Aerolineas Argentinas back in September, SkyTeam announced this Wednesday that it was welcoming Xiamen Airlines to its alliance team. By doing so SkyTeam is adding three new hubs in Greater China: Xiamen, Fuzhou and Hangzhou.

Xiamen Airlines is China's largest carrier, currently carrying a total of 15 million passengers a year. The carrier serves 50 cities including Macau, Hong Kong and Taipei. The airline also flies to Southeast and Northeast Asia and has plans to launch flights to other destinations in Europe, North America and Australia by 2014.

By joining SkyTeam, Xiamen Airlines will offer its customers a larger network of connections onto international routes from China operated by other members including Air France, Delta and Korean Air.

Xiamen Airlines customers will also have access to Skyprority, the alliance priority airport services, as well as the possibility to join SkyTeam Elite Plus, the program for First and Business Class passengers.

SkyTeam currently offers 15,000 flights a day to 993 destinations in 186 countries. Oneworld, one of its main competitors, currently has 12 members with Qatar Airways joining next year. Oneworld covers 856 destinations in 159 countries operating over 9,300 flights a day.
